Awkward/Awesome Thursday!

Awkward
-When someone in front of you decides to hold a door open for you but you're way behind, so you have to awkwardly walk super fast/jog to the door and say "Thank you!" all out of breath.

-My mom got me a trial to her gym, so a couple of days ago she met me up there to get me signed up. The guy at the front desk said "It's good that your mom is here too because if you're under 22 you will need parental sign-off... I mean not that you look 22." I misunderstood and got really excited thinking that for once someone thought I definitely looked older than 22 and said "Yeah, I'm 25." He laughed and said "Seriously? I'm sorry... I thought you were 19!" and then of course went into the typical: "You're going to be really glad about that when you're 50" yadda yadda yadda.

-Kasey and I have to be the "Rapper's Girlfriends" bumblebees in our tap dance and have to spend several 8 counts at the beginning of the dance channeling our inner-Snooki's for a full Civic Center to see. So far we are completely awful at it.

-Going to AT&T the other day to switch from my Blackberry to my old iPhone because I missed it, dropping it two days later (causing the "silence" feature to stop working), and having to switch BACK to the Blackberry.

-Girls who lash out at their baby-daddies via Facebook status.

Awesome
-Winter clearance! The absolute BEST time to stock up on all of my winter favorites.

-Even though I'm sad that I had to give up the iPhone yet again, the company that made my favorite iPhone cover just released a line for the Blackberry! I've been stalking their website for 9 months.

-I'm going to Lubbock after work today to visit my sister for a couple of days! And also because I have an eye exam tomorrow. I got contacts over a year ago but my eyes are already blurry again. I can't wait to get a new prescription and have perfect vision!

-This season of The Bachelor. Too much greatness in one show.

-Deep cleaning the inside of your car and being able to enjoy the goodness for a few short wonderful days!

-Wearing a t-shirt under your cardigan to try to make your professional dress feel a little less professional.

-Kids who throw temper tantrums in the middle of the hallway. It always makes me laugh a little inside.

Playing Pretend

Seriously... you have NO idea how badly I am wanting warm weather to return right now. I see people on TV wearing springy dresses and sandals and I cringe with jealousy. It's wayyy too early to be getting spring fever. I figure if I refuse to buy any more winter items this year, it will surely get warm soon.

It might be cloudy and cold outside, but today I'm going to pretend that I'm wearing this:

{dress: ruche, flower: the limited, sandals: target (these sandals are on sale for $4.54 and you'd better believe I immediately added them to my cart. but then I realized that they only have them in a size 5. if you have a size 5 foot, you are one very lucky person. you're welcome.)}

And that I'm at the beach.

Ohhhh man. To be at the beach. Pure bliss.

No whiny children to be seen.

Just sand. And ocean. And seashells. And smoothies. And sun-kissed skin. And painted toenails. And cute sunglasses.

This is absolute torture.

I am very thankful to be sitting at this desk, eating cafeteria food, and anticipating an afternoon full of bright smiling students ready to learn. I am also thankful for leggings and Uggs. Amen.

Snowfall Thermo Boots

I just found out that this highly attractive boot is electrically warmed. It even comes stocked with a rechargeable battery. Looks like my personal style might have to take a turn for the worse warmer.

Oh, and T to the GIF.

Awkward/Awesome Thursday

 Awkward
-When you're having a conversation (typing) with someone and they spell a word wrong, and it's necessary to use the word again in your response, and you're not sure if you should misspell the word purposefully so they won't feel bad or if you should spell it the correct way when you say it.
-I tried to make small talk with the checker at the grocery store by asking "How are you?" and the girl responded with: "Not good... it's been a rough week." Not expecting this response, I awkwardly said something like "I'm sorry, that's not good." ... "Yeah, my uncle raised me because my parents died. But my uncle had a stroke on Monday and he's still in the hospital. On top of that I've been scared by myself at home every night." ... "I'm really sorry to hear that." .....????? I don't understand why strangers feel the need to tell me things like this.
-Trying to carry 2 or 3 really heavy things at once while walking a pretty long distance. I always feel like I look like such a struggling loser.
-The drive-through people at the nearby McDonald's AND Grandy's know me by name. Sadder than sad. I go every single morning (only to get a coke but it's still awkward). Hence the reason that I switch between the two. I don't want to look TOO stalkerish.
-Yesterday I bought this flannel shirt online. I got the same shirt in a different color for Christmas and love it I clicked "like" on the web page because I thought I might as well give it a good review and figured it was just called "liking" because that's what you call things these days. Next thing I know, Facebook is telling the world that I like a flannel shirt from Urban Outfitters. Since when does Facebook tell everyone what clothes I buy?
Awesome
-Duncan Hines decided to burst my bubble and change their chocolate chip muffin mixes to whole grain. Absolutely disgusting. It's been a sad couple of months. BUT earlier this week I found out that HEB sells jumbo normal tasting chocolate chip muffins... and I don't even have to go to the trouble of making them!
-This week. One day was a holiday and two days are workshop days, which only leaves two days of actually coming to school. Granted, workshops are a complete snoozefest, but they sort of remind me of college. I could get used to this.
-I am officially out of time because I want to go home now. I'm partially sad that I didn't get to finish the "awesome" part of the list, but the fact that I finally get to go home is awesome.

HOME Stretch

Way back in October I stumbled upon a craft that involved old Reader's Digest condensed books and no-sew jersey ruffles made out of white t-shirts. I immediately knew I wanted to make something similar for the living room so I ordered to sets of condensed books off of Etsy. I made a few ruffles and then stuck everything in the closet where it gathered dust throughout the holidays.

A couple of weeks ago I pulled everything back out and finally got the ruffles finished yesterday. Trust me, this little project is much more time-consuming than it looks!!

These little books now hang above my couch. They're a little different than my usual style but serve as a good conversation piece. I'm happy with how they turned out and even happier to be finished making no-sew ruffles!

Happy Dance

Strolling through Best Buy this evening, I glanced over and saw THIS...
I couldn't leave without it. And it is JUST as good as I thought it would be. My life is now complete.

Awkward/Awesome

I think today is a good day for Awkward and Awesome Thursday.

Awkward
-Buying groceries at United and having to have someone push the cart out to your car for you. It is for this very reason that I have spent the past 7 years shopping at Walmart or HEB. They allow you to take your OWN groceries to your car!
-Going to the donut shop. Whenever I go get donuts before work, everyone in the entire place stares at me while I'm ordering. This is not just in my mind either. Yes rude donut shop customers... I might be small, but I can order two donuts, a pastry, and a croissant just as well as the rest of you. It's called saving them for later!!
-Teachers who walk down the hall saying "SHHHH" as loud as possible over and over and over. I can hear it for miles. All day, every day.
-Boots that fall above the knee. How are you supposed to walk?
-Whenever you're walking in a really crowded place and you think you hear someone yelling your name. You turn around, scan the crowd as quickly as possible for a familiar face and then walk away really fast because you didn't recognize anyone... hoping that you just misunderstood and that you're not completely dissing someone.
-Sneezing multiple times in a row in public so that someone ends up having to say "Bless You" three or four different times.
-Accidentally "liking" strange Facebook statuses because your phone never locks when it says that it's going to.
-My phone also recently posted "UUyyYyUyUYUuUyUjUjjUjJuJuJuJUUJjUJuJUUuJUJjijUiIIUIIuuiuuiUiuUiUIIuUuIUuuuuuuuu" on some random guy's wall that I played flag football with my freshman year and haven't spoken to since.

Awesome
-Three day weekends!
-Hard-boiled eggs that have COMPLETELY yellow centers (no greyish, greenish ring around the yolk). Mmmm.
-Wearing Under Armour leggings under absolutely everything.
-For our tap dance in the spring show we are going to be bumblebees. And we're dancing to "Baby Got Back." Sung by someone who sounds like a chipmunk. AMAZING.
-Kids who bring me gum during school even though they aren't allowed to chew any.
-The little socks that you can wear with ballet flats and they won't show. I just discovered them!
-The Sims. It neverrrrr gets old, even if you do.
-Freeeeeeee pencils for my classroom! TONS of them! I'll never have to buy pencils again. :)

My BFF Sarah

Sarah came to visit me this weekend!! I went to a wedding with her as her date because her hubby had to work. After the wedding she came over for a slumber party! Granted, the definition of slumber party has changed a little since we turned 25. We grabbed some chips & queso from Rosa's and sat on the couches talking about grown up things like hair products and taxes for the next 4ish hours before retiring before midnight. :) It made me miss the days when we lived together and could do that every single night.

wedding

Love you Sarah and thanks for coming to hang out with me!!!

Conquering the Details: Part II

Man, I am going through SUCH a blog blah right now. I looked back at my first blog post ever earlier today and realized that I'm still suffering with the blogging issues similar to the ones that I suffered with in the very beginning. Except now the details that I obsess over are pictures with crappy quality (aka not owning a camera that's good enough), lack of time, and simply not having much to write about at the moment.

Could this have something to do with the fact that I follow 40+ blogs daily and 90% of them are run by professional bloggers? I'm thinking yes. They are all full of pictures that seem to be taken by professionals and seem to have the most eventful lives ever. Oh yeah, and they are all top chefs and seem to have 8 hours a day to devote to various amazing crafts.

My life is pretty darn boring compared to the lives of professional bloggers.

It's sort of like when I try to cut my own hair and then I go to a professional for the first time in 9+ months and she immediately out-does my hair cutting abilities with the swipe of a pair of scissors. Sort of.

But I'm not a professional. I have a PERSONAL blog. I'm not supposed to have to write every single day, or take the best pictures, or make up my own recipes, or have a million dollars to spend re-doing antique furniture. Right? This blog is just supposed to be a fun hobby... a source of stress-relief. Not a stress causer. Right?

Right.

Okay then. I'm going to make it through this.

Even if it means that this post doesn't include a picture.

{Professional bloggers across the world are gasping.}

{Except they don't read my blog.}

Burrr...

January and I don't get along too well. I hate the cold. Have I mentioned that before? And this house. Ohhhhh this old house. FREEZING!

Which means that my evenings consist of a lot of this:
Thank heavens for space heaters and my purple Snuggie.

The End of the Holidays

Happy 2011 everybody!! I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and a great New Years. I'm always really sad to see the holidays go. January and February are the longest months in my opinion. Freezing, and not a whole lot going on. I definitely shed a few tears when the Christmas tree came down earlier this week.

I really haven't known what to do with myself during all of my time off. The first couple of days I was sure that I was going to go crazy but I am finally getting used to all of the free time. Too bad school starts again on Tuesday!! I kept myself occupied with several little holiday projects.

Here's the little tree before all of the presents disappeared:
The week before Christmas I spent every evening wrapping presents and watching Christmas movies. I'm seriously the SLOWEST wrapper in the U.S. of A. I wrapped two presents per movie. I've tried for years to improve my wrapping time but I don't think it's ever going to happen. This year I decided to go for a totally different vibe with my presents than I typically do. They looked pretty cool under my tree but seemed a little strange once they were next to normal red and green Christmas presents at our holiday gatherings.
I bought a hand stamp off of Etsy and handmade all of the gift tags. It took seriously took me weeks. Why am I so slow?

I designed a few other gift tags too. I didn't actually use these on my presents but they're for my imaginary future stationary business. :)

I also made cinnamon honey butter for everyone. I found the recipe on a blog and thought it was a really cute idea - mostly I just liked getting to decorate cute little squatty mason jars!

Now to find a couple more projects to get me through the last part of Christmas break. Heaven knows that these projects keep me from cleaning until my fingers fall off. Life savers really.

I can't wait to see what 2011 has in store. Happy New Year!!!
