DIY Flower Arrangements

Last Friday we went to the reception site and tackled the flower arrangements. Chelsea and I had absolutely no guidance about how to make a flower arrangement, so it was a little scary. We had ordered flowers in bulk from Sam's and HEB. A few months ago when Hobby Lobby had a 50% off sale on vases we went and bought tons of glass vases in all different sizes.
We cut off the stems and leaves, filled the vases with water, and voilĂ .

We decided to make our arrangements with only one kind of flower rather than a variety, which made it pretty simple. The arrangements that our florist offered us were around $130 per table. Our arrangements cost around $7 each. We put one vase on every table with either purple, cream, or lace fabric underneath and candles and bowls of cream or purple M&M's around them. We had several extra vases left over that we placed elsewhere throughout the venue.
Overall I would say choosing to tackle your own flower arrangements is VERY worth the effort. It only took us around 2 hours to put everything together and was such a money-saver. Just make sure to order your flowers a few weeks in advance (and keep in mind that you will need to pick them up a few days early so the flowers can open up).

Hi! I just found your blog through Google Reader! The flowers looks soo pretty- great job! My aunt does her own floral arrangements too and something fun she does is take banana leaves and wrap them around the inside of a round glass vase- it looks so pretty from the outside!

Hey Sonia! Thanks! I've never heard of the banana leaves idea but that sounds really neat. I am going to have to try that next time!!

You gals are so creative!!!! Beautiful arrangements and vases. Good job. I think you could start your own business with this.

Very impressive!! They are gorgeous!! I like how you kept each vase a solid color...that turned out nicely. Will you be doing your own arrangements next month as well?

Thanks Estelle! If I had any idea how to start a business, I would definitely want to go into wedding planning. :)

Rachel... yes, we are going to be doing the arrangements next month as well. Luckily now we've had some practice!!
